Chick-fil-A
A chicken sandwich. It’s just a chicken sandwich! Yet these restaurants are more profitable per location than McDonald’s...even though they’re only open 6 days a week. This is an interesting one to me; I’m not a super-fan of their food. I mean I like a chicken sandwich and waffle fries as much as the next guy...but I personally like Wendy's and Burger King’s spicy chicken sandwich better than Chick-fil-A’s. It’s a limited menu, and the kid’s toys are ok but often not as interesting a McDonald’s. But that’s just my opinion, and for some reason, most people will disagree with my evaluation of their food. People love Chick-fil-A. So why does even my 4 year old love Chick-fil-A more than any other fast food place?? It’s the vibe. The culture. The experience. Even going through their drive-thru feels good because of how you’re treated.
If you can create a company that makes people feel good because of how they are interacted with, it can be a big winner...even if you’re just selling a chicken sandwich.

ClickFunnels
This fairly new company is quickly becoming one of the most popular marketing tools in the world. It’s a simple website builder with templates and features specifically built towards optimizing online sales. Believe it or not, this 9-figure (privately owned) company has only 1 sales person! The founder. Almost all sales are generated through their affiliate program.

Clash Royale
I actually play this game on a fairly regular basis. The genius of Clash Royale is in their upsells; they have new in-app purchase deals. I’m sure there are many players who spend hundreds every year on the “free” game (whereas a new Xbox game is $60...one time). This is a great example of the magic of the upsell.

TapeACall Pro
It’s pretty simple; this is an app for recording your phone calls. The app charges $11 to download, plus a monthly fee (that’s where the money is) if you want unlimited recording. Sometimes a simple tool is all you need to build a strong company.
PS: At the time of this writing this app is one of the top paid iOS apps in the world.

Audible
And Jeff Bezos does it again! Audible is actually pretty unique in how they monetize content: you can get a free book as a trial, then you upgrade to a subscription where you get a certain number of book credits a month. These credits allow you to get any Audible book for the same price of 1 credit (no matter the dollar price listed). But you can also pay the dollar price if you wish to add an extra book that month. You probably will never have the amount of content that Audible is able to list, but if you do have a good library of content you may be able to take some notes from Audible on how you monetize.

GrubHub
It’s normal food. Taco Bell, pizza, chinese….but we’re willing to pay a lot more to get it delivered straight to our door! By the time you’ve paid the delivery fee and added a nice tip for the driver, you’re often spending $10-$20 more than if you just picked up the food yourself (probably less than a 10 minute drive most of the time). But America loves convenience, and even if it means doubling our bill at Taco Bell for the exact same amount of food, we will go the easy route. If you can start a service that feeds into the American thirst for convenience, you may have a good concept on your hands.

Tesla
Don’t bother going to your local dealer, they won’t have any Teslas. In order to buy a Tesla, you have to put down a downpayment...often to just get on the waiting list! It’s elite. Tesla is quickly becoming a high-end brand and status symbol because they are focused on being futuristic, socially conscious, and just plain cool.
The formula to take to heart here: High-End Product + Social Cause = $$
