Patents
Do you need a patent? Probably not. Here are a few reasons why:
*A patent mainly matters if you have and are willing to spend the money and time to defend it.
*Just because a lawyer will let you pay them to start the patent process does not mean the idea is patentable. For example; Uber cannot patent the ability to pay for a ride service through an app. Candy Crush can’t patent the ability to have a candy-themed matching game. McDonald’s can’t patent the ability to make and sell burgers.
Patents generally matter if you have something very specific to defend (not an idea...something more solidified) like a unique formula or algorithm, a new engineering or manufacturing process, etc. For example; Ford and Tesla may patent their electric car batteries...but they can still both make and sell electric cars.

CopyrightsWhen you get an app developed with us you will own all original code and design. As long as you own the IP (intellectual property), you should be good to go. Often a copyright does not even require a special process, as much original work is automatically covered under US copyright laws.
Not a bad idea...once your brand is established. We do logo and brand development for many of our clients. It’s an extremely important part of your company which is best done by experienced designers and business strategists. Once you have your logo solidified you can consider filing for a trademark.

Contracts
Contracts are important. They protect all parties involved in the agreement, and also help establish, in writing, what is expected from everyone involved in the deal. Sometimes you may need an in-person lawyer to help you, and sometimes you can start with an inexpensive legal service like Sparqa Legal.

Legal Structure
The most popular legal structure is an LLC, but you may want to get some advice on what’s best for your situation. Even if you have an existing company, you may want to set up your app or new business under a separate legal entity. A legal service like Sparqa is often an adequate solution for getting your LLC set up.
